What Is It?

A charming, fully 3D-printed bird feeder house designed to bring a little life — and a lot of chirping — to your backyard, balcony, or garden. It features a sloped roof for rain protection, a generous feeding tray, and decorative window cutouts that give it a storybook cottage vibe.

The Story Behind This Design

This design started with a simple problem: the cheap store-bought feeders kept cracking after a few weeks outdoors. I wanted something durable, good-looking, and actually functional — a feeder that holds up in real weather and looks like it belongs in a garden, not like a piece of disposable plastic.

After a few iterations in Fusion 360, this little house came together: wide feeding tray, sloped roof, drain holes so birdseed doesn’t turn into a swamp, and mounting holes that work with almost any setup. It’s been hanging in my garden for months now and shows no sign of wear — and the local finches definitely approve.

Why PETG?

PETG hits the sweet spot for outdoor prints: it’s more UV- and impact-resistant than PLA, easier to print than ABS, and won’t warp in direct sunlight. If you only have PLA, it’ll work — just expect to reprint after a season or two outside.

Printer Compatibility

I printed this on a Bambu Lab X2D, but any printer with a build volume of 180 × 180 × 180 mm or larger can handle it. Also compatible with:

  • Bambu Lab P1S / A1
  • Prusa MK4 / MK3S+
  • Creality Ender 3 V3 (rotate 45° if needed)

Installation

There’s almost nothing to assemble — if you printed the one-piece version, you’re done. For mounting, you have three easy options:

  1. Screw mount — Two pre-cut holes on the back panel. Screw directly into a fence post, tree trunk, or wall.
  2. Zip-tie hang — Thread a zip tie through the back holes and wrap around a pole or tree branch.
  3. String hang — Use the built-in hanging slot to suspend from a hook or branch with strong twine.
